OK OK

Not being one to normally complain - I have to make a new post to begin to bury my last post.

Phew ... that last week is over and yes, I survived. The older I get, the more I get to dislike birthdays. And, having my birthday at this time of year when Canada witnesses some of its most dramatic season changes - just magnifies my reflection of things.

For example .... Two weeks ago we had snow ... while last week we had temperatures reaching 21 C or 70 F melting all the snow away.

During the last snowfall (on St. Patrick's day), I took some photos. (including my tiny balcony, which is part of this 'inner-city' condo complex situated only a couple of blocks away from Toronto's famous Maple Leaf Gardens). The last one is of my favourite building in Toronto. I love its relation to the two tall banking buildings behind it (which are actually about six or seven blocks away).

The one you call your favourite building is VERY like those around Nottingham City Centre. It would fit right in.

Ian,

I perhaps it was Nottingham men who built it when the immegrated to Canada. It's just down the block from the St. Lawrence Market, that you say resembles Manchester. Aah, perhaps this is just proof that Toronto was built by former Englishmen.

It does look like the building on the left of my painting, only "thinner"

There absolutely is an 'Englishness' to downtown Toronto. Not surprising at all, but I hadn't really thought about it before.

Let's hope the snow doesn't make a comeback. I'm mentally ready for the warmer weather. Night-time snow tubing will have to wait another year, right?

You're right Ian. I see the one you're referring to in your (wonderful) painting.

I agree Anne-marie. I've come to terms with no more skiing/snow tubing so I don't want the snow either. This morning on the way to the parking garage I noticed a couple of tulips starting to poke their heads thru the earth's surface. I'm hoping for a long spring with temperatures around 23C.

The snow is disappearing quickly here too, and I say good riddance, as I never was much into winter activities or winter in general. Still, at the risk of being negative, I always keep my fingers crossed that the winter won't "backfire" in May or so.

Hi Lesley!

Those are great photos.
The tall buildings are pretty magnificent.
I guess if I was to live in the city it would be IN the city - none of this new suburbia crowd-em-in-shake-hands-with-the-neighbours-through-the-bathroom-window-thinking-you're-living-in-the-country stuff.

Good to hear you made it through the week.

...and I still love birthdays - even yours!

Take care.

Love
Dale

Hi Lannio, I missed your last post!! Sounds as if you've been having those end of winter blues and I'm so sorry I didn't see it. I do hope you're feeling a little more up beat now. I also realise I must have missed your birthday, so I can only say that it marked the beginning of a great year ahead dear Lesley.

As for these pics, it's lovely to see how you condo fits in to its surroundings and the last picture is fabulous! Lovely buildings, but the snow? I'm so glad we've had so little this year ;-)

Take care, dear and I'm thinking of you. xx

Les, don't even feel you have to make up for feeling down and glum in a post... you were all there for me when I was feeling awfully low, and not a single one of you did anything other than be supportive. Turnabout is fair play, so you are allowed to have a down day! And far better to tell us than not to!
I hope you are feeling much better, and I am sending lots of cyberhugs your way!

Thanks for visiting me olde bloggie.
Don't forget your fridge pic!

Take care,
Suexx

Your condo building is lovely! It's so quaint next to the bigger buildings. I used to walk down around your favourite building a lot when I worked in T.O. on Adelaide St. It's so unique.

Yes, let's get rid of the snow... time for tulips!!

Your photos are beautiful. Cityscapes have their own kind of beauty, I think. The snow softens the lines and angles of the buildings and creates a contrast of dark and light as well. You've captured it nicely - this photography knack runs in your family, no?

About the birthday/career blahs - Hang in there - and keep thinking about what you want in your life. Spruce up that resume and keep the focus on what you've done that you want to do more of - or how you can take your existing skills in another direction. I think I recall you saying that you're in communications? With your passion for music, what about looking at options in the recording industry? Or marketing? I found the placement agencies very helpful in my search. They get leads that never hit the papers or the internet.

Whatever direction you want to go with your career - and your life, don't give up and don't settle. You've worked too hard for too long - and you deserve the best!

Well! There's my unsolicited advice for the month! I know what you're going through, though, and would hate to see you (or anyone) drag a bad situation out for as long as I did before (in my case) being forced to do something about it.

I'm done...:)

BTW, Happy belated birthday!
