We're halfway thru the season.

I was just thinking today how quickly time is flying. I was reviewing my work schedule and shudder at how much I have to accomplish before the end of the year. It's only 28 days until I see the Who and 46 days until I fly to British Columbia for a Western family Christmas.

I also realize that November 6 is the 310th day of the year with 55 days remaining until we reach 2007.

With 88 days between the equinox on September 23 and the solstice on December 21, we're halfway through the Autumn or Spring season (depending on which hemisphere you live in!

Thank goodness I only have one more Christmas present left to get!

Winter, where I live, is on its way. What is your favourite thing about Winter?

My favourite is walking on freshly fallen snow that crinkles when you walk upon it on a clear crisp sunny morning.

I guess I can't say that my favourite thing is the end of it, can I?

Actually, the trick to getting through a Canadian winter is to dress well and embrace it. I much prefer a sunny winter day with blinding light to the alternative, which is one of those endlessly rainy and grey seasons like they have in other milder countries. You can still get out in the snowy sunshine, but rain is rather limiting.

If I were to have a favorite thing about winter, it might be waking up in the morning and looking out to see a world clothed in pure white about two feet deep and still snowing. While I'm looking, the radio announces that the schools are closed and so is everything else. I know we'll have to clear the driveway and find the cars sometime today - maybe, but there's no hurry.

Then there would be chunky sweaters with extra long sleeves that cover my hands while I hold a cup full of hot chocolate or tea while curled up on the couch with a blanket watching it snow even more....

Now if we only had a fireplace...

When I was very small a favourite thing was New Year's Eve. Dad was from Scotland, and so me and big sister were always taken downstairs at midnight to bring the New Year in with the adults, and eat haggis.

I like the crisp, cold, sunny days of a Winter. not too keen on the snow when it gets slushy. Love Snowmen though.

Hmmm......I think I agree that my favourite thing about winter is the end of it too.

There is something nice about snuggling up at home under a warm blanket when it's howling a winter storm outside with tons of snow, and you don't have anywhere to go....oh, well, they already wrote a holiday song about that!! *L*

AM & MB: In my opinion: The end of winter is slushy, brown and smelly - yuck!

Rachel: Being curled up under a blanket while a storm rages outside is also a favourite of mine... And, I do have a fireplace (a fake one in that it is gas)

Ian: Haggis! I've only had haggis twice. Once in Canada and it was awful and the other in Scotland (on the firth of fourth) and it was pretty decent.

Here are some favourite lyrics from a song about winter:

Soft falling snow
Warm candle glow
Flushed faces show
The pleasure when we meet.

But of course!

And after dinner sitting in front of the fire watching Warren Miller skiing DVD's...

Then slipping into a hot tub surrounded by snow under a full moon rising from behind the mountains...

And not to forget a lovely bottle of wine - and good company!
